Next Thursday, day 23, the British will vote in a referendum to exit or the permanence of the United Kingdom in the European Union (EU). But, after all, what is the difference between England, Great Britain and United Kingdom?
England is the country that has as its capital the city of London, where the British Parliament and Buckingham Palace, the official residence of Queen Elizabeth II. Great Britain is the name of the largest island, which is home to the England, Wales and Scotland.
The United Kingdom comprises the three countries of Great Britain plus Northern Ireland. The United Kingdom, whose official name is United Kingdom of Great Britainand Northern Ireland was created in 1801, when Ireland was incorporated into the block-in 1922, the Republic of Ireland leaves the Union, leaving only the northern part of the island in the United Kingdom. In September of 2014, the Scots rejected the independence of the country in a historic referendum.

Each country has the autonomy to decide domestic issues, but, with the Union, the power started to be more concentrated in London, where Parliament centralizes decisions on the United Kingdom and where the head of State of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, the Queen Elizabeth II.
